A little advice….

By Matt Wilson | Filed Under Miscellaneous

OK, just a few words of advice for you folks out there.

If a 28-year-old Major League Baseball player wants to date your 15-year-old daughter, SAY NO.

If a fashion magazine wants your 15-year-old daughter to take topless, “artistic” photos, SAY NO.

What’s going on around here? Jeez. As far as I’m concerned, we need someone to start busting some heads. Namely, this guy.

• The Titans keep getting bashed for skimping on the wide receiver position in the draft. Apparently, some folks seem to think that the team’s lack of attention in this area might somehow be detrimental to Vince Young’s career.

• On the other hand, Sports Illustrated’s Dr. Z appears to like the Titans’ haul.

• Meanwhile, SI’s Peter King mentioned the Titans’ draft effort in the same sentence with Matt Millen. Not a good thing.

• Leading up to the draft, I saw a couple of bloggers here and there talking about how wearing a replica football jersey of your favorite team as a fashion no-no and listing all the occasions where it is acceptable and not acceptable.

I’m sorry. I thought this was football, not wine-tasting.

Football is about your team. We’re talking about a sport that virtually celebrates beer, gambling and eating unhealthy. Rules for wearing a jersey? Please.

Okay, okay. There should be some rules. I admit that wearing a football jersey in the middle of the offseason when you’re around town is lame.

So here’s my version of the do’s and don’ts of jersey-wearing. (Note: This applies only to football. I’ve never really figured out the rules of basketball jerseys, if there are any.)

No. 1 — Wearing your jersey at any time during football season is acceptable, but for maximum impact, save it for game day or the night before the game.

No. 2 — This is for you fans of an NFL team. If a player gets traded or leaves in free agency, YOU CAN’T WEAR THEIR JERSEY ANYMORE. That’s right, I’m talking to you folks who still are wearing Derrick Mason and Samari Rolle jerseys. If a guy leaves, you have to dump the jersey and get one of your favorite current player.

No. 3 — No personalizing jerseys unless you are related to the actual player whose number you are wearing.

No. 4 — When the season’s over, no more jersey. Ideally, you should take off the jersey the second the season is over, unless you win the Super Bowl, then you are allowed to wear it for one more day. After that, you really need to move on to your Super Bowl Champions fan attire.

Of course, this just covers NFL jersey-wearing. The rules for college jerseys are a bit more complex. Once I figure those out, I’ll let you know.
