Down the stretch comes VU — again
By Brett Hait | Filed Under Miscellaneous
As is usually the case, Vanderbilt’s baseball season will be defined largely by what happens on the final weekend of the regular season.
The Commodores, 15-11 in SEC play, open a three-game series at Florida on Thursday needing one win to secure a spot in the league tournament, which begins next week. Only regular-season champion Georgia has nailed down an SEC Tournament spot, while Mississippi State is the only team to have been eliminated. The stage is set for a wild final weekend.
Last year, Vanderbilt wrapped up the SEC regular-season championship in the season’s final weekend. In 2006, VU had to beat South Carolina in the final series to reach the SEC Tournament. In 2005, needing one win to advance to the SEC Tournament, the Commodores were swept at home by Florida in the final series of the season.
If nothing else, Vanderbilt keeps it interesting until the very end.
